FOOTBALL FRESH - OFFICIAL APP LAUNCH

"Freshness wins titles".

This is a phrase I heard Andy Barr say recently. Andy, a movement and biomechanics consultant, was a key driving force behind the recent NBA success the New York Knicks have had. The Knicks had a habit of coming back from losing situations to win, which eventually landed them the NBA Championship this year, and he said it was because his team were fresher than everyone else (the NBA has a pretty crazy schedule with little time between games).

For years, each club I have worked at I have created a wellness questionnaire for players to fill out each day. This questionnaire is a tool to guide me as to how I can help players from day to day to keep them as fresh as possible, so they are available to be picked on match day. They answer simple questions around sleep, fatigue, niggles, knocks, hydration etc. This way if I think I need to amend a players training that day then I can, as it will prompt me to have a conversation with them so I can make decisions. The information is transferred to a spreadsheet and I can see the team overview and look for trends.

So I thought it would be interesting to create an app that would be even easier to use than a questionnaire, and this is where now the app Football Fresh is available to use for IOS users and also as a web app. It will be in the google store soon too. It is a free app and easy to use and it will help coaches at all levels be able to monitor their players and help them be fresh on game day (as coaching is about helping players right!). The team data is transferable easily from the app into a spreadsheet too, but the app will give you a team overview anyway. Every day it will give each player a score out of 100, with a simple suggestion of what they may need that day. This scoring system is based on how the coaches monitor players at a top Champions League team, who kindly shared this information with me. If players are fresh then it will help reduce the chance of injury, and they will also be able to perform football actions better and for longer.

But what about players who want to monitor themselves and what they are doing?

Players can download the app also for themselves, and monitor their own trends from day to day. We ran an experiment earlier this year to see if we could help some semi professional players remotely to be fresher, and the results and process can be found here

Players can also contact us direct for remote help and there is a link on the apps homepage for this.

For more information you can visit the website here

The web app can be found here, where you can sign up too

Also you can just goto the App Store and search and download to your phone

Here's to helping our players be as fresh as possible for matches!
